WHAT IS YOUR LIFE?

“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life…?” (James 4: 14).

What is your life? What a pertinent question that every living should find answer to! Not just any answer but a correct answer. Not to know the actual meaning of life is not to live life correctly. If your own meaning of life is wrong, your life will automatically be wrong. If your understanding of what life is all about is dark, it means the ‘under’ upon which your life stands will be dark and vague as well. If you have acquired wrong doctrine on the subject of life, your manner of life consequently follow after the wrong doctrine. Paul the Apostle, while writing to Timothy said, “But thou hast fully known my doctrine [and] manner of life…” Your life will definitely take after the doctrine of its definition. The two are directly proportional.

What is your life? You will discover that there will be as many different answers to that question as there are people on earth. To live a meaningful life here on earth, you must of necessity know the true meaning of life. Your definition of life will in turn define your pursuit, ambition and passion in life. Many people today in their foolish ignorance of what life is all about have mistakenly concluded that life is just all about power, possession and profit; career, sex and money. Therefore their lives consequently follow after that pattern. And if you must know the true meaning of life, you must of necessity trace it to the Giver of life. So what does the Creator of life say about life?

WHAT LIFE IS NOT

“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches.”

Can you see that what majority are glorying and priding themselves in as life is contrary to God’s own definition of life? There are several professors today who have rejected God in pursuit of wisdom and philosophical degrees thinking that life is embedded in academic research and number of degrees they acquire. Yet others who think life is all about power have plunge themselves into heinous evil in other to secure power. They murdered several lives and employed weapon of blackmails in order to seize power. But is that all there is to life? What about the inordinate passions for money and material possession? Is it not because people have come to define life to mean the amount of money and material possession they have? Bribery and corruption fill our land because of the quest to gain money and acquire wealth. Preachers have cunningly reduced the Cross and its benefits to the perishables still because of money. Money has been given a prominent position in religious houses today because of the wrong notion that life is all about money. But is life truly all about money? Hear what Jesus (the Eternal Son of God) had to say:

“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12: 15 KJV).

“Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own” (Luke 12: 15 NLT).

“Speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even if you have a lot!” (Luke 12: 15 MSG).

Wow! Jesus says that life has nothing to do with being wealthy, so beware of covetousness (greedy desire for what we don’t have). This is the exact opposite of what society usually says. Advertisers spend millions of dollars to entice us to think that if we buy more and more of their products, we will be happier, more in tune, more comfortable. But the Creator of life said Life is not defined by what you have, even if you have a lot! For happiness and comfort do not depend on the wealth of this world. What a contrast to the society view of what life is. Solomon acquiesced to this in his experiment to discover what life actually is all about. He searched deeply for it in fame, females and fortune but he concluded all to be meaningless and vanity!

THE TRUE MEANING OF LIFE

If you will find the true meaning of life and live life correctly, you must of necessity need to discover it in the Giver of life and His manual for life. So let’s turn to the Book and check what It has to say.

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he UNDERSTANDETH and KNOWETH Me, that I AM the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. Jer. 9:23-24

 And this is THE REAL AND ETERNAL LIFE: That they KNOW YOU, the One and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom You sent. John 17:3 MSG

“And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent” KJV

Life in its truest and highest sense is KNOWING GOD!
