THYSELF IN TIMOTHY 6

WITHDRAW THYSELF

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such WITHDRAW THYSELF. 1 Tim 6:5 KJV

In the journey of life and Christian service, there are many dangerous things we run into ignorantly. God even acknowledges it. He said “Who is as blind as my own people, my servant? Who is as deaf as my messenger? Who is as blind as my chosen people, the servant of the Lord? Isa 42:19.

Paul told Timothy to withdraw from people who just wanted to make money from preaching and from those who stray from the sound teachings of the Gospel into damnable heresies. But come to think of it, there must first have been involvement before withdrawal. It is possible that Timothy had ignorantly joined fellowship with supposed Christians and ministers who “say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars” and upon that discovery must withdraw himself with immediate effect.

Note: It is pride of heart to keep going in a wrong direction when you become aware of such!

Beloved, it is possible you have given your word of commitment to a wrong cause. It’s not impossible that you have mistakenly find yourself among false brethren. It could be that while you were in search of the fellowship of the brethren you have found yourself in the fellowship of demons. It is possible you have said ‘Yes’ to a wrong proposal…What do you do when you discover you have been in an ungodly fellowship and relationship? WITHDRAW THYSELF!

To withdraw is to pull back or move away backward. It is to STOP taking active part. It is to take back what has been said. To withdraw is to break from a meeting or a gathering. It is to make a retreat from an earlier commitment or activity. To withdraw is to keep away from others. To withdraw is to be released from something that holds fast or entangles.

When you fail to withdraw where and when necessary, it can make people mistake your Israeli Moses for an Egyptian. Failure to withdraw when and where necessary will corrupt and make you lose the good thing you carry.

When Jesus perceived that they would come and take Him by force, to make Him king, He withdrew from there. When He discovered that the fellowship of His trusted disciples had become a prayerless fellowship, “He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down and prayed.” If Jesus could withdraw where and when necessary, who are you not to?

May the Lord teach you the way of withdrawing. May you find strength to withdraw from necessary things you need to withdraw from.
