Words are not simply sounds caused by air passing through our larynx. Words have real power. God spoke the world into being by the power of His Words: “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Heb.11:3); and since we are also made in the image of God, man also has power with words. Words do more than convey information. The power of our words can actually destroy or build; kill or make alive. There is tremendous power in the words of our mouths.
Of all the creatures on this earth, only man has the ability to communicate through the spoken word. The power to use words is a very unique and powerful gift from God. Though it is a gift, our minds have power of life and death embedded in it.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21).
“There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health” (Proverb. 12:18).
Words like tools have the capacity to help us get our desired goals or send us spiraling into a deep depression. In the kingdom of darkness, they explore the power of spoken words in accomplishing their satanic agendas. A man in Africa can run somebody mad in the United States by the power of spoken words. Words carry power.
The Nature of Spoken Words
Words are spirits: “It is the spirit that quickeneth…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
Have you ever taken time to think about what Jesus said about His spoken words? Jesus says, the words He speaks “are spirit, and they are life”. That means the moment you speak forth words, they immediately exist as spirits which are invisible. This to me is an alarming revelation! Especially when Jesus says, “God is a Spirit” (John 4:24). The implication of this is that everything that will become visible to the eye must have first existed in the spirit realm. If we believe that spirit beings do possess some kind of supernatural power, then you must also believe that your words also carry supernatural power in a measure. Everyone believes God is all powerful. Yes, He is. But God and His Words are two inseparable Beings: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Joh: 1:1). If the Word was God, then your own words are gods just as the Bible says, “ye are gods”. May the Lord give you understanding. If I may put it straight at you, the words that proceed out of your mouth immediately become spirit beings following you and shaping you according to what they are- whether good or bad. You can imagine the kinds of spirits following you everywhere!
Words have creative power: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1-3). “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Heb.11:3). From the foregoing scriptures, we can establish that words possess creative power. To create means to bring into existence things which have not existed before. So then, the spoken words which we have established as existing as spirits are not idle spirits; but rather, they are actively involved in the work of creation or bringing into existence what are being spoken. What a serious matter this is! God created the universe by the power of His Words. Jesus did most of His miracle through the instrumentality of His Words. He healed the sick, cast out demons, delivered the oppressed and raised the dead all through the power of His Words.
Caleb and Joshua in the Bible confessed with their mouth they were able to go and possessed the land and they possessed it; whereas the remaining ten spies also confessed they were not able and they perished in the wilderness alongside thousands who confessed negative with them. The difference lied in what they said with their mouths. Prophet Elijah confessed he was not better than his fathers who had died when God was giving him fresh mandate to execute and he died without completing the assignment; whereas Paul confessed “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” despite serious severe opposition and he ended up declaring, “I have finished my cause”. The shunemite woman in the days of Elisha confessed “It is well” even when her child was already dead and it became well with her child!
You also create something around your life each time you utter something from your mouth. The words you speak immediately exist as spirits and create things around you. What words are you speaking? Stop and listen to yourself, whether it’s your self talk or your words to others. Can you see the connection between what you’re saying and the life you’re experiencing? The words to which we commit shape and condition who we are, just as much as our thoughts and physical actions. It does not matter in what context or subject, as long as you use words that have limitations, you are limiting your state—and hence your success.

Success is there if you speak the words of success; and failure is there also if you speak the words of failure. Sickness is there if you speak words of sickness; healing and health are equally there if you speak the words of healing. If you confess prosperity and wealth, they will become your experience in life and if on the other hand you continually confess yourself to be poor, poverty spirits will continually follow you and create poverty around you. Jesus says, you shall have whatsoever you say. (Mark 11: 23). What you say is what you are!
By replacing our current negative vocabulary with new empowering substitutions of the words of God, we will shape our lives according to the good purposes of God for our lives. But before we can do that, we must allow the words of Christ to dwell in us in all wisdom and make the Word of God our meditation day and night. Begin today to replace the “I Can’t” with “I can”, “I am poor” with “I will never be poor”, “I will die” with “I shall not die”, “It is not well” with “It is well”, “I am sick” with “I am healed by His stripes”, “I cannot make it” with “I will make it” and so on and so forth. Once we begin to speak good words, good spirits will be created around us and creating good things for us. Remember, the words we speak become spirit beings following us, words have creative power and you are what you say.
Job 27:4: My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
Psalms 64:8: So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves:

Proverb 15:4: A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
